First Presbyterian Church

MissionPossible Each Fall the members of the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend are greeted with the words:

"Good morning. members of First Presbyterian. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to do some 'undercover' work at local stores to benefit Great Bend school children."

In the foyer of the church is a bulletin board containing assignment envelopes filled with instructions like "boys sized medium underwear" or "girls sized small sweat pants"

On October 18, designated in the Presbyterian Church as "Children's Sabbath," the items purchased were presented to Sheryl Neeland, an elementary school guidance counselor with the Great Bend school system.

The gift of underwear, sweats, hats, and mittens, and this year a backpack are for emergency use throughout USD 428. In addition to the clothing, a Wal-mart gift card was given to be used for emergency purchases

Ms. Neeland shared a note received last year from a child's mother expressing her appreciation for kindness one of these items brought to her child. The clothing had been laundered and returned to be used by someone else.
