This year, as the Reformed world celebrates the 500th anniversary of Calvin’s birth, we Presbyterians have reason to celebrate – and, we hope, reclaim – education as a major hallmark of our mission heritage around the world.

 We owe that heritage to Calvin’s legacy of establishing public education as the key to responsible citizenship in society and in the kingdom of God.

Calvin insisted that the human mind and conscience are freed unto obedience of God through learning.

We give thanks for John Calvin’s vision, and for our mission legacy of education.
